Zack Carlson-Giving is currently on staff at Wayzata High School where he leads Troubadours and Varsity Tenor/Bass Choirs, Cantabile and Cantori Soprano/Alto Choirs, Madrigals Chamber Choir, and co-teaches Concert Choir and Bel Canto Soprano/Alto Choir. In addition to his teaching and co-teaching responsibilities, he vocal directed this year’s fall musical. Prior to joining the music department at Wayzata High School, Carslon-Giving was the Vocal Music Director at Buffalo High School. During his five years at BHS, the Concert Choir was selected to perform at the Minnesota Music Educators Midwinter Clinic in February 2020 and enjoyed an enriched collaborative schedule with high school, collegiate, and professional choirs across the region. Outside of his choral teaching and music direction of musicals, he wrote the curriculum for and led the BHS Unified Music program and was invited to perform at numerous Special Olympics State Tournaments. As a singer he has performed with The Singers- Minnesota Choral Artists, the National Lutheran Choir, Twin Ports Choral Project, and imPulse. Carlson-Giving has presented sessions focused on supporting new and early career choral directors at both State and Regional ACDA Conferences and was selected to present a session entitled “Unified Music: Music for All, Advocacy, and Curriculum Writing” at the 2023 MMEA Midwinter Clinic. In 2021 he was awarded ACDA-Minnesota’s Emerging Choral Conductor Award. He currently serves ACDA-Minnesota as Repertoire & Resource Chair for Senior High Choirs. Carlson-Giving studied Vocal Music Education at the University of Minnesota- Duluth and earned a Master’s of Music in Music Education at Michigan State University.
Sarah Gilbertson is currently in her twenty-second year of teaching choral music in the Eastern Carver County School District. Currently, she is the director of choral activities at Chanhassen High School in which she directs the Concert Choir, Bel Canto, Vivace, the 9th Grade Women’s Chorale (Aurora), the Chamber Singers, and Vox (select women). She received her Masters in Music with an emphasis in Choral Conducting from Northern Arizona University, studying with Dr. Edith Copley. She is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College with a B.S. in Music Education. Prior to her graduate studies, she was the choral director at Chaska High School, and Champlin Park High School. She has sung with the Bach Society of Minnesota, Sebastian Singers, and Kantorei. In 2000 she received the “Outstanding Young Choral Director Award” from the MN American Choral Directors Association. She has been on the MN ACDA board as a chair representative and served as the state’s Repertoire and Standards Chair for Women’s Choirs. She currently serves as the ACDA of MN Co-Chair for the 9-10 High School Honor Choir. Sarah is a member of MENC/MMEA, ACDA, Phi Kappa Phi, and the VoiceCare Network. Sarah lives in Chaska with her husband Jon, and her 7 year old twins Esther and Weston.
